Our Story
From regional dishes to the meaning behind our Tumbling Kelly logo, everything at Inwa is rooted in heritage, culture, and a deep connection to Myanmar's people. From slow street cafe mornings to bustling wet markets, every family brings their own tradition to the table when it comes to Burmese food.
The City of Inwa
Inwa (also known as Ava) was once the beating heart of Myanmar — a royal capital that ruled on and off for nearly four centuries, cradled by rivers and moats like a fortress island. Wander its quiet ruins today and you'll find leaning monasteries, a crumbling watchtower nicknamed the "Leaning Tower of Inwa," and horse-cart trails winding through fields where kings once held court. It's history at walking pace — a forgotten capital hiding in plain sight near Mandalay.
Our Logo: The Tumbling Kelly
Our logo is inspired by the Tumbling Kelly (ပစ်တိုင်းထောင်), a traditional Burmese toy known in English as a "Weeble" or "billiken." Thanks to its bottom-heavy design, no matter how hard you push it down, it always pops back upright.
In Myanmar, someone who rises again and again in the face of hardship is called a pyit-taing-htaung — a symbol of resilience, perseverance, and never giving up. The toy is so beloved that Yangon Region even chose it as an official mascot, representing good luck and the spirit of always getting back up.
That's what the Tumbling Kelly means to us: no matter how many times life knocks you down, you rise again.
